Home Renovatons Home Renovation

While features of a home may have served a purpose or been a unique in their day they many times do not meet the needs of a modern family. Renovation, when done properly can update the functionality of a home to better serve its current owners. This is also an easy way to improve the curb appeal and the visual design of the home. With J K Janiga Architects extensive background, this type of home renovation can be a successful and enjoyable experience for the client.

  • Renovation of an existing 1950's ranch home incorporated building upon the contemporary design elements of the original home with a creative contemporary influence. The addition of a vertical entry mass creates not only the missing entry definition but establishes the base concept for details on the rest of the home.

Carrying these creative details to the interior helps to make this home as spectacular to live in as to experience in driving by.

  • This renovation converted an existing ranch home to a custom Prairie Style Residence. Initially the Owner intended to add an upper level. After developing a Cost Analysis it was determined the budget was severely limited to properly obtain this level of renovation. Using the under-utilized walk-out lower level we were able to meet all of the program requirements and spatial needs while creating a very unique home for the family

  • The client loved the layout of their home, it's location, and the extensive rear yard landscaping. However, they were not as content with the exterior appearance of the home. Like so many houses in their subdivision it was outdated and not aesthetically appealing. By changing the materials on the exterior and exploring the trim details, this house is now the talk of the neighborhood. So much of the credit once again goes to the attention to details.

  • Built in the early 1900’s, the attic of this downtown Ann Arbor home was significantly underutilized. Functioning as storage and sometimes a sleeping space the client saw the potential hiding in this old attic. Through the use of removable cabinets we were able to create plenty of storage in and behind the cabinetry. Though a contemporary use of the space, with similar stains, trim profiles, and construction details this renovation feels right at home in this historic house plus creating a unique space from an old attic.
