Waterfront Homes Waterfront Homes

Designing homes in waterfront applications present unique opportunities to explore the potentials of creative design.
J K Janiga Architects excels in finding unique solutions for what most consider the challenges of lakefront sites such as maximizing views, maintaining privacy, and creating something respectful of the typically magnificent site. Our attention to detail and thorough site analysis allows our design to transform potential challenges into spectacular waterfront homes

  • Set atop a hill on the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay and nestled in the woods this cottage takes the cabin of yesterday into the cottage retreat of the next century.

Using natural materials on both the interior and exterior creates a beautiful residence as well as a very comfortable spot to snuggle up next to the fireplace on a cold Michigan winter night.

  • Nestled in the trees atop a hill overlooking the river, this custom home took full advantage of the site and the exquisite views it offered. With creative design, this home maintains its privacy from the neighbors while taking full advantage of the view. Providing both the feeling of being on the water as well as allowing the living area to become one with the exterior, the rear deck projects much the same as the prow of a boat, while the views from the office loft are reminiscent of the pilothouse of a riverboat.

  • Set high upon a sand dune the existing home was crying out for a facelift befitting of the beautiful landscape and topography. The existing entry, as shown, had no presence and spoke lengths about the overall design of the building.

Details such as decorative gable brackets, curved entry porch roof, retractable awning, custom interior shelving with integral lighting and window placement all contribute to drastically transform this home.
